Primary Health Care Research and Development

PHCRED Strategy



The Primary Health Care Research, Evaluation and Development (PHCRED) Strategy is a program funded by the Australian Government since 2000 to improve Australia’s capacity to produce high quality primary health care research. In building research capacity, the Strategy offers opportunities for research training, support and experience spanning the full researcher development continuum.

General Practice NSW and the NSW Primary Health Care Research Capacity Building Program have been working closely together to promote evaluation and research programs in the Divisions Network, with the aim of:

  • increasing Division capacity to critically appraise research literature and design a research project
  • encouraging more Division staff to consider evaluation methods in their work
  • increasing the capacity of the Divisions to conduct appropriate evaluation activities
  • improving Division capacity to report evaluation results effectively
  • developing a network of Division staff with an interest or expertise in evaluation.
